I admit, I am a sucker for punishment and occasionally enjoy checking conservative blogs just to see their level of insanity. However, a recent post truly bring into question, at least for me, the most basic constitutional understanding of the right.
"After the vote in the House today on H R 1591, the so-called "U.S. Troop Readiness, Veterans' Health, and Iraq Accountability Act, 2007," we get to meet our 2 newest traitors from the GOP.
Meet Wayne Gilchrest, MD. and Walter Jones, NC.
Much like their inspiration, Benedict Arnold, they found a better offer than being loyal to those they once took an oath to serve." (Red state)
The stricking part is of course not the Benedict Arnold comparison--that is almost to be expected. The truly horrendous part of this quote comes in the last few words.
Lets look to the actual oath that congressman swear to upon taking office
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. [So help me God.]"
Notice the complete absence of the mention of any political parties, house leadership structure or loyalty to any other single individual. It is to be expected that founders that were adamantly against factions and parties would help formulate an explicitly neutral statement.
Additionally, notice the mentions of the duties of the office, which obviously includes congressional oversight of the executive branch included matters of war...The very thing that the right is condemning these individuals for doing
I know pointing out the faulty logic we see on the right is almost pointless, but this example just struck me.
